Botox Trends

By Ariel Mernal

The public is well aware that having botox treatments is a simple and easy solution to make the skin appear younger. Wrinkles and fine lines in the face become quite a big concern for ageing people, so many of them are utilizing the latest advances in cosmetic treatments, and that means getting botox injections. Botox may have been considered to be a procedure that would come and go, however the skeptics now see that this is not true, it's going to be around for a while.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. More and more people have realized this now, thanks to all the publicity botox treatments receive through celebrity use.

What about Botox for Men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. The facts show something else, entirely. Even though the procedure is more often performed on women, men are getting botox treatments more often nowadays. Some newspaper reports have even gone to the extent of calling it 'bro-tox'! In some areas, men are accounting for about half of the botox injections that they administer.

The trends are always evolving

Botox is becoming more popular all the time. It is estimated that the number of men and women who underwent botox injection rose from 2010 to 2011 by around 5% - that's a rise from 5.4 million to 5.7 million people. There are those who say that the number is more accurately about 10% per year that it rises. This rising trend should come as no surprise. The previously attached 'stigma' and social attitude to botox injections being the treatment reserved for the wealthy no longer exists, and neither does any sense of any shame of undergoing the procedure. It has now become a well recognized and widely accepted surgical procedure.

That is only part of the story. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy have had botox help them, as well as those who have blepharospasm and also conditions such as spastic paraparesis. The benefits are looking good and the results are more than satisfactory. Other applications include managing patients with migraine (multiple botox injections are given to the scalp) and excessive sweating.

It's plain to see that botox is only gaining in popularity. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
