They serve as the principal practitioners in any setting and lead another team of experts. The work of the other squad is usually to offer help to them and if necessary learn a few methods of handling different cases. The team consists of dental technicians, hygienists, assistants and therapists.

Being a dentist starts at high school where a learner is supposed to complete the curriculum having taken appropriate courses. Courses include statistics, physics, general biology, organic chemistry and general chemistry. After one finishes high school, one must pursue a Bachelor degree. This is crucial since dental schools like admitting graduates. In some instances, exceptional students get admitted while in third year.

In order to apply to a dental school, one needs to pass the DAT test. This exam tests skills one possesses to avoid starting from basics when they join the school. Admission is always competitive with about only half of all students being taken. Things that most admission boards consider in order to admit someone include DAT score, GPA, and recommendation letters from relevant referees.

Dental school training takes four years in Orlando Florida. This period however varies among countries and states. Learning is split into two sections. During the starting two years, students concentrate on the theory part with minimum lab involvement. The following two years are primarily lab based.

There are some instances where students cannot handle the demands and stresses from this course and therefore they quit and join other careers. Those who complete the 4 years receive a degree in dental surgery or dental medicine. The 2 degrees are similar and the school one receives it from dictates which one is issued.

Acquisition of medical degree does not allow a dentist the right to exercise their skills on patients. They need to be licensed by some standard regulatory authority. Certification and licensing involves some procedures that should be successfully gone through. Failure to undertake all the steps could lead to legal action by relevant authorities. The certification procedure involves succeeding in the national board exam and payment of a fee. One must also show their mastery in each clinical competence.

Some of the jobs they do comprise of dental treatments like orthodontics, prosthetic, restorative operations, periodontal therapy and endodontic therapy among many others. They also advance their education by taking extra lectures to practice latest techniques and study current issues.
