The Benefits of Lymphatic Massage

Lymphatic massage refers to a specific massage technique which concentrates on the lymph flow within the body. By increasing the flow of lymph the body is able to remove harmful and unwanted substances from the tissue and helps to increase the immune system. Lymphatic massage therapy is highly beneficial for individuals who suffer from edema, have sport related injuries or need a boost to their immune system.

The lymphatic system is a very important aspect of the body as it controls the body's ability to properly heal. It also wards off disease and is an essential part of the body's drainage system. It successfully cleans and filters the body from toxins and bacteria.

Whenever there is a problem within the lymphatic system, persons may experience several symptoms and ailments. Aches and pains, flu-like symptoms and soreness are all results of a faulty and congested lymphatic system.
If the lymphatic system is blocked and remains that way there are several negative effects such as flu and cold infections, joint pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, headache and migraine, depression, acne, cellulite, arthritis, fatigue and mood irregularities.

Lymphatic massages date as far back as the 1930s and was a delicate and low impact method of stimulating the lymph system. Because there is no central pump to this system it relies heavily on muscle contractions, exercise, and deep breathing.

A massage incorporates light pressure and soft pumping which significantly increases the metabolism. A strong immune system keeps the human body functioning properly. It is common for clients to drink a lot of water after a lymphatic massage in order to help flush their body of toxins and waste.

Lymphatic massage therapy is often used to enhance skin quality by increasing the flow of lymph giving the cells of the skin a fresh and youthful appearance. It is also commonly used to help relieve muscle and tendon tension in people who are active. Sometimes applied after a neuromuscular massage, it helps to clear debris from tissues and reduce edemas that may occur after a deep tissue massage.

When lymphatic massages are repeated it can also help to enhance the regeneration of tissue and also speeds the scarring process. Both circulation and immunity against disease and sickness is improved greatly.

Lymphatic massages are safe for most persons but to ensure there are no health risks it is best to consult with a doctor beforehand. As with all other massage therapies there are some health conditions that should be taken into consideration such as major heart problems, thrombosis, malignant tumors and acute inflammation. A trained and experienced therapist will be able to pinpoint afflicted areas of the lymphatic system and successfully free them. This type of massage is especially beneficial for persons with a low immune system, body aches and pains.
