How Water Retention Causes Women to Look Fat

It's Water Retention Not Fat That Causes Some Women To Look Fat

Have you ever looked in the mirror and thought that you have done everything possible to lose that last 5 to 10 pounds and it just won't go anywhere? If you then you are not alone as while many women think they look fat because of actually being fat it could actually be just water retention. Water retention is just excess water that is stored under your skin. I have seen a lot of women who are lean almost everywhere and yet look fat in other places.

Water Retention Causes

The cause of water retention is caused when have too much sodium in our bodies and don't get rid of it. Sodium can come from the foods we eat or the things we drink and if not used it gets stored much like our body stores unwanted fat which will cause you to look fat. The term for water retention is subcutaneous water and we want as little as this in our system as possible. I am not saying that all water retention is bad since we need it to stay healthy and alive however there is no need for excess.

How to Tell if You Look Fat Because of Water

Well some of the tell tale signs that you are only retaining water and not actually fat are if you seem to have a low body fat percentage everywhere else but seem to be chubby in other places. In other words in some areas of your body you look slim, toned and well define while other areas look like a blur. Another sign is when you are sweating and your sweat actually tastes salty. This is a definite sign that you are retaining way too much sodium and need to get the sodium from being captured underneath your skin.

So You Don't Want to Look Fat Because of Water Retention

Water causes you to look fat and less defined because of all the water trapped under your skin. So women a key to not looking fat because of retaining water is to make sure you consume less sodium. In other words eat a lot less salty foods and drink more water. Another thing that really helps cut down on the amount of sodium that is under your skin is to make sure you sweat as much as possible. Sweating is the absolute best possible way for getting the sodium that is already trap under your skin out. If you notice that while you are working out your sweat still seems a bit salty than you are still consuming too much sodium and need to drink more water and sweat more.
